Junior Choir Hamamatsu

In our August 2022 newsletter (https://www.creative-hamamatsu.jp/blog/junior-orchestra-meets-in-the-national-performance-exchange/),  we introduced you all to the “Junior Orchestra Hamamatsu”, consisting of students from elementary all the way up to high-school age. However, this time we would like to introduce their choral sister group, the “Junior Choir Hamamatsu.”

Finding its start in 1964, the choir has since provided local children with opportunities to develop a greater sense of familiarity with music and learn about musical culture from an early age. The group also aims to nurture the musical sense of the next generation of musicians who will engage in cultural and international activities by providing them with a sense of familiarity with music from a young age.

The choir members practice daily for their regular recitals and spring concert. Thanks to the recent easing of the restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group’s activities have gradually expanded and gone back to their normal level.

In September, both the Junior Choir and Junior Orchestra Hamamatsu held their individual regular recitals – with it being the first time in four years that either group was able to perform without masks.

Several alumni of the Junior Choir and Orchestra Hamamatsu have gone on to become professional musicians after graduating from music universities. Other former members are pursuing their own paths related to music – including some who have become music teachers or others performing as amateur musicians.

We hope that the Junior Choir and Orchestra Hamamatsu will continue to produce many more esteemed alumni, who will go on to support our city as “Hamamatsu, the Capital of Music”.
